La ejecución fue pública y avalada por las leyes locales
En un cable enviado por la agencia últimas Noticias, se informa que dos adolescentes homosexuales iraníes fueron ejecutados públicamente por haber mantenido relaciones sexuales meses atrás. Los jóvenes fueron colgados en la plaza Edalat (Plaza de la justicia) en la ciudad de Mashhad, al nordeste de Irán.Durante su juicio, los adolescentes de 16 y 18 años, admitieron que mantuvieron relaciones sexuales, pero alegaron que no estaban advertidos de que la homosexualidad tenía como castigo la pena de muerte. Antes de su ejecución, ambos fueron recluidos en prisión durante 14 meses y azotados con 228 latigazos.
Ruhollah Rezazadeh, el abogado del más joven (menor de 18 años ), alegó que era demasiado joven para ser ejecutado y que el tribunal debía tener en cuenta su corta edad (supuesta en 16 o 17 años). Pero el Tribunal Supremo de Teherán ordenó que fuera colgado. En Irán la mayoría de edad se alcanza a los 15 años y el código penal Iraní dispone que las chicas mayores de 9 años y los chicos mayores de 15 pueden ser ahorcados.
Otros tres jóvenes gays iranís están siendo buscados por la policía, pero permanecen prófugo y las autoridades no han podido dar con su paradero. En caso de ser capturados se enfrentarían también a una posible ejecución."Esta es tan sólo la última barbaridad de los Islámico-fascistas en Irán", dijo Peter Tatchell, del grupo de derechos humanos gay OutRage! Quien agregó que "el país entero es una enorme prisión, con la ley islámica, basada en la detención sin juicio, torturas y pena de muerte dictada por el estado".
"Según los activistas pro derechos humanos en Irán, más de 4.000 lesbianas y gays han sido ejecutados desde el régimen de los Ayatolas en 1979." En total, alrededor de 100.000 iranís fueron ejecutados en los últimos 26 años de gobierno religioso. Las víctimas incluyen mujeres que han tenido relaciones sexuales fuera del matrimonio y oponentes políticos del gobierno islamista.
"El pasado agosto, una chica de 16 años, Atefeh Rajabi, fue colgada por "actos incompatibles con la castidad".
"El gobierno laborista británico mantiene relaciones amistosas con este régimen asesino, incluyendo ayuda y comercio. Urgimos a la comunidad internacional a tratar a Irán como un estado paria, romper sus relaciones diplomáticas, imponer sanciones comerciales y económicas y a dar apoyo en la práctica a la oposición democrática y de izquierda dentro de Irán." dijo Tatchell.

Dear Honorable Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon,
We, the undersigned, have been extremely concerned about the ignorance and brutality that homosexuals are facing in many countries around the world. These savage acts of harassment, torture, and even murder can only be characterized as Hate Crimes against the gay populations of countries on every continent.
It is difficult to hear about any prejudice and bigotry turning violent; however it is especially heart wrenching to hear reports of the murder of two Iranian boys. These teenagers were hanged to death because they acknowledged having a relationship.
We are committed to stopping these senseless killings, but we also understand that it will require additional pressure at many different levels to cause change. The United Nations has always provided leadership in regards to human rights and we know that we will be more successful in educating people about sexual orientation with such a well respected body joining our cause.
We created this petition to increase the awareness and notoriety about the hanging of these two young men. We also created this petition to cause shame and dishonor to those who committed or participated in this indefensible and cowardly act of murder of two human beings before they were even truly adults.
We know you have received an enormous amount of e-mail complaints about this matter. We sincerely hope this petition gives you a tool to use in negotiating with anti-gay governments for more liberal human rights laws and greater tolerance for their gay citizens. We welcome any support you can provide the LGBTQ movement along the way. We need to encourage acceptance and abolish punishment of gay and lesbian people, and we know we will succeed if we stay united against violence and hate crimes worldwide.
